A New Baby!!!

July 29, 2007

On Wednesday, July 25, 2007, 4:00 am, my wife, Monica, who is five days overdue with our sixth child, woke me up to say, “Nathan, my water broke.”

My first comment was “Are your sure.” Of course she was sure.  What mother of five doesn’t know the difference?  Within a quater hour she was having contractions every five minutes.  By 6:00 am they had spread out to every fifteen minutes.  The midwife arrived about 7:30 and agreed that things were not moving as quick as should be.  she then prescribed the following remedies.

  1. Go to the Chiropractor.
  2. Eat eggplant parmesan.
  3. Go for at least a 20 min. walk.
  4. Take these vitamins and herbs.

We finally accomplished this list about 4:30 pm and returned home with contractions still about ten to fifteen minutes apart.  At 5:30 we made a second trip to the chiropractor because the baby had turned to face the wrong direction.  After a good ajustment we grabbed a steak to go and returned home so Monica could try Castor Oil. (YUCK!!!)  At 11:00 pm contractions were still fifteen minutes apart and Monica fell asleep.

At 1:30 am Thursday (26th), the castor oil kicked in and contractions were every five minutes again for about two hours.  After all this time the midife checked Monica and informed us that she was dialated to about a four.

By 4:00 am the contractions had slowed to every fifteen minutes again and progress came to a slow crawl.  This pace continued until about 1:45 pm Thursday.  The midwife called a couple of doctor friends to get advice and returned with the nonwanted news.  Our last and only hope was to give Monica an injection of pitossin and pray that God would intervene.  If the baby was not born within an hour we would have to go to the hospital and most likely have a C-section.

This of course threw us into effectual prayer!  We all had a sincere prayer and ask God to work a miracle.  I not sure who all was praying at this time but I have had several people inform me that they were praying about 2:00.

At 2:01 the contractions kicked in.  Another at 2:04, and another at 2:08.  Monica was given about two drops of pitossin at 2:11, and a contraction followed at 2:12.  Monica began puching at 2:16 during a contaction.  The next contraction at 2:20 lasted about four minutes.  At 2:27 the midwife and her assistant both began to echo, “Nathan, come look what you have.”

At 2:27 Monica gave birth to Benjamin Austin Brock.  Mother and baby have both been healthy and recovered well.

To God be the Glory!!!  He can acomplish more in twenty-seven minutes than man can manage in thirity-five hours.

Here’s your Sign

July 29, 2007

On July 12-14 my daughter Faith and I were privileged to attend a sign language conference in Trenton, Georgia.  The conference was conducted by Silent Word Ministries International (SWMI).  We learned about 300 signs during the weekend of classes.  SWMI is a wonderful ministry totally dedicated to reaching the deaf for Christ.  If you are interested in working with the deaf they are the ones to talk to.  Their Website is:  www.silentword.org
